BIRDWATCHING FOR KIDS
The goal of BIRDWATCHING FOR KIDS is to show young people how to enjoy watching neighborhood birds in their natural surroundings.  This will be accomplished when they learn how to identify birds, where birds roam, and what birds eat.
In BIRDWATCHING FOR KIDS, youngsters will also learn by completing bird-related projects such as cutting out and coloring a bird bookmark, constructing a Mourning Dove door tag, and creating a Cheerios bird feeder.
In BIRDWATCHING FOR KIDS, the young bird enthusiastist will be able to learn about the Black-capped Chickadee, the Downy Woodpecker, the Goldfinch, the Mourning Dove, the Cardinal, the Red-bellied Woodpecker, and the Tufted Titmouse.

THE BLUE JAY

It's hard to mistake the sound of the Blue Jay.  They have the loudest sound of any of the backyard birds.  If you hear a loud, 'Jay Jay Jay' sound, it is the Blue Jay.  They are smart and travel in noisy families called flocks.  Sometimes they gang up on a cat or owl to chase them away.  This is called 'mobbing'.

The Blue Jay lives east of the Rocky Mountains.  They eat sunflower seeds, suet, fruits, bees, wasps, and beetles.  They also store acorns in the ground to eat later.

The Blue Jay, which is about the size of the Robin, is mostly blue, gray, and white.  Both the male and female have a blue crest on the top of their head, a black necklace, white spots on their wings and tail, and a white or gray belly.
